I came across a black sesame chiffon cake recipe the other day so i decided to give it a try since black sesame is well known for its hair darkening qualities which means preventing grey/white hair la so here's the outcome.
Not exactly the best looking chiffon cake but hello, it's freaking CHIFFON CAKE, numerous first timers, okay, not just first timers (but i secretly, or not so secretly since this is going on my blog, think it's a matter of luck and experience la) get shrunk chiffon cakes so i'm half glad that mine was fluffy & light, just how chiffon cakes are supposed to be :)
I got the recipe from Christine's Recipe :) I secretly reduced the amount of sugar so it's not too sweet, allowing the taste of black sesame to stand out better :)
Also, i made black sesame cookies! I got the recipe from Just One Cook Book. I love both Christine's and Nami's blog a lot because they have directions accompanied by photos, clearly showing how each step should be like. Also, very coincidentally, both recipes complement each other because the chiffon cake has an extra egg yolk which can be used in this cookie recipe.
Here's the end product.
I made all shapes and sizes because i failed at making the perfect round ones like Nami did. |
I made a few substitution in this recipe though.
I find myself really into baking and after countless trials and errors, i'm finally capable of making my own substitutions :) When i was shopping for baking ingredients at the supermarkets, i got asked before three times about the ingredients and i surprised myself by being able to enlightened them!
I can't help smiling while typing this post haha. I'm glad i started my June right with my favourite hobbies, baking and blogging! I ate clean and worked out too as well of cuz :P so, signing off!
Happy June & Happy Mid Term Break ! :)
ps, I messaged Daphne my blog link to my previous post, and she replied me "Lovely ♥" !
That made my day :D
1. I added flaxseed since flaxseed is also a super food and it's extremely versatile, you can add it easily into almost everything and anything :)
2. I only use a quarter of the amount of butter stated on her recipe, i wanted to not use butter at all but my mum stared at me so i was like, *both hands up* okay mom.
3. I reduced the sugar to half of the actual amount for the same reason as the cake, the fragrant of black sesame was brought out perfectly as i wished!
4. i added an extra egg because the dough was too dry, my mum says it's because of the butter, idk. I would choose egg over butter without doubts!
5. I used wholemeal flour instead of all purpose flour because it's a better (healthier) alternative :)

She rolled her dough into perfect cylinder.. |
...while mine was in awkward shapes haha ! |
somehow shape & size doesn't matter because they still taste the same and i loved it :) |
