I went to Lang Tengah Island, a small beautiful island in Terengganu with my family during the Hari Raya break. There were 3 resorts in total on the island, we opted Summer Bay, which was a total bae (now you know how i got my title for this entry), get it? hahahaa sorry i had to. We departed from home around 3am and started our nearly 6 hours drive to Kuala Terengganu. We had time to spare so we did some sight seeing at Kuala Terengganu where we visited the Crystal Mosque. Then we went to Merang Jetty, took a ferry (idk the accurate term la so forgive me please) to the island. There were light refreshments prepared by Summer Bay at the waiting area at the jetty, which i find quite thoughtful.
We were given a wet towel and a cold refreshing drink upon arrival. It was a bit of a chaos as there were a lot of tourists checking in at once. Nevertheless they let us check in as soon as possible (we arrived earlier than the check in time because of our boat schedule) & sent our bags to our rooms for us. I just realised i've been really detailed about everything so far hahahaaaa. Well since a number of people asked me about my trip on my ig, i might as well paint a clear picture here for everyone la.
The room my sisters & I shared was quite spacious. There were two toilets, which was really convenient because you know how girls take a longer time to shower. It wasn't exactly dirty but there were a little bit of sand on the floor, but sand are nasty things hard to clean so I let that slip la.
Our first meal there was lunch, it wasn't anything worth mentioning la haha. Most of the tourist there were Chinese, in fact, majority of them were from China, so in a way I think the food they served were more suited to their taste? I'm not sure la hahaha just my assumptions. But they do serve different types of food every meal, so you don't have to worry about eating the same thing 3/4 days in a row, also there's always something special in each meal like sushi, dumplings, wraps etc.
We were given some time to settle down and rest before we went for our first snorkel. It was just nearby Lang Tengah. There weren't much fishes to see but the corals were amazing, there were all shapes & colours, i would elaborate more if I know their names but I dont, but I'll recommend people who are interested to go see for themselves la. I've never appreciated corals much but the ones at Lang Tengah were really pretty.

Unfortunately I didn't have a underwater camera or the pouches for phones underwater, so i didn't get to take any photos la. It was only until day 3 where i realise they do sell the pouches at their convenient store, which was too late as i was ending my trip already. Speaking of their convenient store, they sell daily wear contact lens in loose (as in not in bulk hahahaaha pardon my limited vocabulary please), so you can get them there la. I know some people don't usually wear contacts, like my sister, but she wanted contacts for a short trip but optical shops usually sell them in boxed of 10/15 at least, which is too much la. They also sell Celcom sim cards there as only Celcom and Maxis get better reception there (my umobile was almost completely unusable there lol)

they jumped off into the water right after i took this lol #yolo |
On day two, i woke up and went for a short stroll at the beach before having buffet breakfast. I don't think there is a better way to start my morning.
Second snorkel was at Perhentian Island, then Perhentian Marine Park, there were two sites la. Some people managed to see turtles there but I was out of luck so I didn't see turtles. Mama Lau saw it, she said the turtle swam right beneath her. I was green in envy.
I didn't really like Perhentian that much, no offense to those who does la. I have to say tho, this is very much a personal preference thing. I've asked a few of the boat crews, which one is their favourite island, they visited multiple island in a area multiple times, everyone gave me a different answer, not a single answer was repeated.

i always sat outside (?) the boat because it's more fun haha |
 |
picture credits to my rather talented snorkelling instructor, Jason haha |
In the evening I went to play beach volleyball with my fellow snorkel guides & the boat crew (i don't know what are the actual terms la, what do you call those people whose job is to bring you out snorkelling haha). It was so fun. Although it involved quite a lot of sand eating haha. By the end of the game, we were all good friends already haha. Love how sports connect people :)

spot me :P |
At night, they also took us out to look at Blue Sand. I've seen blue sand in
Nine Islands, Perak. So apparently if the blue sand are in excess, they will be flushed to the shore by the waves. In Lang Tengah's case, there weren't that much blue sand so we can only see it in the water. I did manage to see some blue sand, they just appear as tiny blue lights blinking at random in the water.
On the third day we went to Redang island. I jumped off the boat instead of taking the ladder down this. I also snorkelled without my lifejacket. Tbh I doubt the usefulness of the lifejacket as the salt water really helps me to float a lot, I barely have to tread water to stay floated. Also I 'dived' into the water to touch the corals. It was so cool, at least for me haha. I felt really accomplished haha. I saw baby sharks, they were so cute! My snorkel guide also brought up clown fishes (Nemo) for me to see. I also witness a Nemo being eaten up by a black fish, it was so scary hahaha.
Knowing it's my last day to snorkel here, my snorkelling instructor, Wan, offered to take me snorkeling in front of our resort in the evening, to look for turtles. So he came right after he finished work and we went for some adventure. I really appreciate the gesture tbh, it's not even his job to do any of this. We saw baby sharks again, stingray, box fish, I even touched the box fish, it was bigger than my head! It has a rather rough & slightly tough feeling, I used to think all fishes are soft and slippery haha. That was the box fish without spikes la, we saw another one with spikes later on, which we didn't touch of course haha. Last but not least, we saw a turtle. It was about two feet big (?). It was really beautiful. I was so happy to see it. I went to shower then I tried to catch the sunset. Unfortunately it was kinda cloudy (it rained later that night) so it wasn't a very good sunset scene.

only reason i'm uploading this simply because i love how tanned i looked hahaa |

they also have this 100 year old tree that looks super magical at night with the beautiful fairy lights, love it! |
 |
they have a really long swimming pool. |
It was a 4 days 3 nights trip. On the first day we went snorkelling in the afternoon, on the second and third day we went in the morning. It was about 45mins boat ride to go to Perhentian & Redang from Lang Tengah. The boat rides were really fun too.

perhentian on the left, redang on the right, lang tengah super cute & tiny di tengah (in the middle) |
We had more snorkeling trips, in redang, as compared to once a day in Lang Tengah. I guess redang is a bigger island so there were more snorkeling sites nearby. I do think that the beach in redang is nicer, as in the sea was more beautiful, however Lang Tengah is really beautiful too, in its own humble way. The sand at the beach in Lang Tengah is so fine, it's the finest sand I've seen, i enjoyed strolling along the beach so much i spent at least an hour doing so each day, for real.
On the final day, we woke up earlier than usual to hike, in hopes to catch the sunrise. Unfortunately it rained during our hike, so we didn't get to see the sunrise either. It was quite a challenging hike though. We met a couple from China so we hiked together. They asked us which part of China did we come from as we spoke "fluent mandarin". Obviously i didn't speak much hahahahaha, Papa Lau did most of the talking. They were quite amazed to find out that we Malaysian speak Mandarin too, proud Malaysian moment la, learning at least 3 languages since young definitely have its perks.

it was quite dark because it wasn't sunrise yet.
rock climbing, literally lol |
 |
we finally made it but sadly we weren't rewarded with a beautiful sunrise :( |
 |

this was quite funny |
Whoa, didn't know how this post got so long but i enjoyed writing it very much la. Honestly speaking, i think Redang was more beautiful, but Lang Tengah will always have a special place in my heart. I had a hard time retrieving my soul back to reality for a few days after returning from the island. I can't wait to go for another beach trip, I'm so glad i actually have another one coming up in two months, but then I'll have to go through my professional exams, which is happening in 3 weeks (omggggggggggggggg). Ok i'm gonna use the beach as a motivation la !
Love,
Sheunny
